Event Details
The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot to dot journey of the tracks which have led them to who they are today. The evening will end with a unique performance and chance to meet the artist afterwards. This time we have a national treasure of indie music – STEVE MASON – former frontman of the beloved ’90s/’00s band The Beta Band. The Beta Band were one of the most acclaimed, exciting and experimental acts of the late-’90s/earlyy-’00s indie scene, creating a massive stir with the release of their first three EPs (famously featured in the movie adaptation of Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity) followed by three critically acclaimed albums – The Beta Band Album, Hot Shots Part 2 and Heroes To Zeroes. Following the band’s split Steve Mason released an album under the King Biscuit Time moniker through an imprint of Alan McGee’s post-Creation label Poptones. An electro influenced album under the name of Black Affair – a collaboration with Jimmy Edgar – followed. In 2010 the first of 4 albums under his own name was released – Boys Outside was produced by lauded producer Richard X, the originator of the “bastard pop” movement. This was followed by Monkey Minds In The Devil’s Time in 2013, Meet The Humans in 2016 and his latest album About The Light, released in 2019 on the indie label Domino. With a catalogue of work which has always had an eclectic experimental edge with a heartfelt core Steve Mason’s Defining Ten songs will no doubt be a wonderful trip full of surprises, followed by an exclusive 45 minute DJ set.
