The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot to dot journey of the tracks which have led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track which opened doors, the track which closed doors, a track which inspired and lead to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, cd or streamed – and discussed with the artist. The evening will end with a unique performance and chance to meet the artist afterwards. In January we are honoured to have the company of Sid Griffin, widely regarded as the godfather of the Americana genre. After moving from Kentucky to Los Angeles in the late 70s Sid immersed himself in the garage punk scene. 2 bands later he formed The Long Ryders who over 6 years of existence would release 3 acclaimed and highly influential albums, melding the punk and garage sensibility with a country sound, creating what would years later be recognised as the beginning of the Americana genre. Following this act he would form The Coal Porters, which took the country rock sound of The Byrds, Gram Parsons and Buffalo Springfield before moving into a folk and bluegrass direction. Acknowledging their increased influence and reputation within the Americana movement The Long Ryders eventually reformed with global tours and recording further albums, with their latest album Psychedelic Country Soul in 2019. As well as his musical pursuits, Sid is also an acclaimed author of books on Gram Parsons and Bob Dylan as well as a regular contributor to radio and television programmes. Following the discussion of his defining ten songs Sid will be treating us to a special acoustic performance making this an unmissable evening in the presence of such a globally influential artist. Please note this is a ticketless event – you will need your order number/ email receipt to gain entry to the show. This event plants trees – for every ticket purchased one tree will be planted with onetreeplanted.org To keep informed of further events, you can follow us at www.facebook.com/musicsavesworthing or on Twitter and Instagram @musicsavesuk
